If You Aren't Outraged Then You Haven't Been Paying Attention!
February 22, 2006

I saw a bumpersticker on my way to work yesterday that read:
"If You Aren't Outraged Then You Haven't Been Paying Attention!"

Outraged by what? Paying attention to who?

That is such an open-ended statement, and could be applied across any point of the social or political spectrum, that it got me thinking - which was probably the point in the first place.

I am outraged! Pick any one of the topics below and I'll bet you're outraged too:

It sickens me to know that this Nation, once blessed by God Almighty, still allows the daily sacrifice of our unborn children on the alter of "choice".

It angers me to no end that the movement to reduce the institution of marriage to that of a "civil union" has more momentum than "traditional" marriage.

It outrages me that career politicians pay more attention to their re-election campaign contributions than they do to listening to their constituents - all three dozen of you that actually contact your elected officials...

And why is it that the "peace loving" religion of Islam sits by quietly while a few radical, extremist muslims clothe themselves in explosives and detonate in populated areas, usually killing more muslims than anyone else? But the entire faith gets its world-wide undies in a bundle over a cartoon?

There is plenty to be outraged about in the State of Wisconsin too...

How about the multi-millions of taxpayer dollars that are going to fund the BioStar project at UW Madison? This scientific hell-hole is focused on embryonic tissue research to "keep Wisconsin at the forefront of bio-medical stem cell research". Thanks Governor Doyle for keeping us at the head of the pro-death parade!

Don't forget about Mazzomanie Beach in Dane County. $50K+ taxpayer dollars are spent each year keeping this home for sexual perversion open.

The list goes on and on, locally, in Madison and at the Federal level. But guess what? There is NO outrage because people AREN'T paying attention. And why not? Why don't people care about these things? My immediate response is 'I don't know'. But upon further examination I think the answer comes down to the age old battle between good and evil.

I'm sure you've heard the saying "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing...". Well, too few good men (and women) are doing anything while the majority of people who consider themselves to be "good" remain blissfully ignorant, wasting three or four hours each night watching sometimes humorous, but always useless dialogues between fictional characters who get paid to keep those people on their couch rather than at the Library, or at a City Council meeting, or at church.

A gentleman named Bill from Sun Prairie, WI recently replied to a commentary by the Constitution Party (national) on the President's State of the Union address (which you can read on the CPoW web site at www.cpow.org). Some of what Bill said is quoted below:

"The assaults on the rock core basic Christian character of this country are being done for an agenda. One which leads to socialism if not marxism.

Why is it left up to organizations like American Family Association to fight these battles in the courts and through direct contact with the average American? Why isn't the Constitution Party [National] Committee (IS there even a committee?) taking that
fight on themselves visibly?

WE KNOW WHAT'S WRONG AND NEEDS FIXING. What we NEED is a political party filled with men of character fighting for us on a daily basis. What we don't need is another political party making empty promises with no action or successes backing up those promises."

Bill, I've included you on this email only to let you know that your concerns are valid and to tell you that the problem you've identified isn't with the Constitution Party or its leadership. The problem is with the people wasting time in front of their television, choosing not to get involved in the process.

Men like Howard Phillips, Michael Peroutka, Thom Holmes, Scott Whiteman, Darrell Castle and women like Joan Castle, Alison Potter, Nancy Spirkoff and many others have all dedicated their time, talents and a great deal of their personal finances towards achiving victory over the political evil that besets our nation.

Here in Wisconsin we don't have individuals with pockets as deep as some of those mentioned above, but we do have dozens of dedicated people who contribute as much of their time and talent as they (we) can to achive the same goal.

Yet, in this very important election year we still have not found any one person willing to run for a state-wide office with the goal of receiving 1% of the popular vote. This one thing is absolutely required if we are to maintain our current ballot status. Without that, we have to petition again in 2008 if we want to have CP candidates on the ballot.

So how sad it that? In Wisconsin we have more than 5 million people but the active, that is contributing, membership of the CPoW is less than 100 and we can't find one person willing to carry the flag for us in this 2006 election year.

If you aren't outraged then you haven't been paying attention...

Well? Are you outraged? Really? Prove it! Turn off (or better yet, throw out) your television and get involved! Sending a check is nice and we always need your financial contributions. But we need YOU more. We need YOUR TALENT and YOUR TIME if WE are to succeed.

That all said, I'll close this week on an upbeat note. In response to the minimum pressure that has been felt on the UW Oshkosh campus, Dean Michael Zimmerman has agreed to remove the portion of his web page that solicits contributions to advertise and promote "Evolution Sunday". This is a minor victory, but I personally will not be satisfied until the entire site is no longer hosted on a taxpayer funded web server.

Keep up the pressure on both the UW administration and in the Wisconsin legislature. This is a battle we can win, but only if you take the time to fight!
