  It's All About the "Hate"
March 6, 2007

Man oh man, you can't turn a page in the paper or click past an on-line news site or flip through the television channels without seeing or hearing something about hate these days.

Most recently, poor Ann Coulter has been attacked because of a humorous remark she made - that's right, it was intended to be a joke - at the Conservative Political Action Conference last Friday, March 2. Ms. Coulter's remark about John Edwards was suppose to be a comical slam relating to a comment made by "Grey's Anatomy" star Isaiah Washington, who referred to co-worker T.R. Knight as a "faggot". Later, T.R. came out and admitted he was/is gay.

OK. So what? I did a (very) little research using dictionary.com and looked up two words - "nigger" and "faggot". Both are listed as derogatory, disparaging or offensive terms when used to describe an individual and, as such, have been deemed hateful by those more politically correct than I.

Well, what am I suppose to think when I hear one black person refer to another black person as a "nigger"? They call each other "nigger" all the time yet there are no left-wing, bleeding-heart do-gooder's lining up to correct these misguided individuals and suggest they need sensitivity training to show the proper respect for another.

Yet Isaiah Washington, in order to appease the ABC Network brass, who were afraid of the gay lobby backlash, had to issue a formal apology AND attend some sort of sensitivity training. How ridiculous!

I did another cursory search on the Internet and found the word "faggot" used quite frequently on, where else(?), gay web and blog sites! Again, they can call each other "faggot" but no one else dare use that evil word!

I say enough is enough! If gays don't want to be called "faggot" then they need to stop referring to themselves as "faggots". And if the black community doesn't want anyone else using the word "nigger" then they need to reflect a bit on their own use of the word, and stop using it!

Those of you who know me might remember a little verbal scuffle I got into in the fall of 2005, right after hurricane Katrina wiped out New Orleans. Uppity, self-righteous professors where I work were making comments on the email discussion list that I found to be ridiculous and a bit hypocritical so I called them on it. I also made a comment about the perversion that would not be able to take place during the "Southern Decadence Festival", which was called off due to the devastation of the area. Well, you'd have thought I was standing in the public square calling people "faggot" by the response I received from the local gay community! They even lodged a formal complaint with the Human Resources department, which was, of course, summarily dismissed because of the absurd nature of the complaint.

In that whole process I was accused of engaging in "hate speech" because I referred to people engaging in sexual activity in public view as perverts. Well guess what? THEY ARE! I don't care who you are having sex with, if you're doing it on someone's front lawn you are a pervert!

The word "decadence" means moral degeneration, a synonym to the word "perversion" (I really appreciate dictionary.com)! So again, those who participate in the Southern Decadence Festival are intentionally acting in a manner consistent with the definition of the word "perversion", but don't dare call them a pervert or you're engaging in "hate speech"!

The whole thing is ridiculous. Our Creator God made us with all our emotions and that includes both love and hate. Hate is a God-given gift that, when used in a righteous manner, can energize and organize individuals to stand up and do what is morally right and correct. Hate of slavery brought about an end to the slave trade. A century later the common hate of racism brought about public awareness to the prejudice that still existed in America. The Bible states rather plainly that God HATES sin. So why does everyone make such a big deal about hate?

Please don't misunderstand or read me the wrong way - I do not "hate" people or groups of people for who they are or what they do. I absolutely dislike, and at times may even hate, the actions of some people but not the person or group in and of itself.

For example, recently my son has been telling lies. Little lies that in the grand scheme aren't a big deal, but I don't want my children growing up thinking it's OK to lie so I have stressed in no uncertain terms how much I hate it when my son lies to me or his mother. That doesn't mean I hate my son. In fact, by showing him how much I hate the lies he's telling I'm also showing him how much I love him. Left uncorrected he may turn into a habitual liar, someone who can't be trusted at his word and who won't be liked by many people. How much love would I be showing him if I didn't demonstrate my hate for his actions?

I'm also not saying that all hate is a good thing. Remember, I said hate is an emotion that God gave us to motivate us to do what is morally right. If your hate of someone leads you to commit an act of violence against another person, that is NOT morally good or right. Violence against another of God's creation is never a good solution, especially when motivated by hate.

So, who's gonna jump on the "hate" bus with me? I hate bad things and for me, it's all about the hate. Without hate I would turn a blind eye towards the evil I see and how does that make the world a better place?

Anyone else care to hate along with me?
